I’ve been listening to the new Rolling Stones CD. It is wonderful to see them finally put together an array of Blues covers that lovingly pays tribute to their music roots. This recording is worth every penny, especially of you are a Blues fan. The tracks are terrific Blues interpretations, and perhaps the best part is, Eric Clapton plays on two tracks. His first contribution comes on slide guitar on cut number six… Little Johnny Taylor’s “Everybody Knows About My Good Thing”. Clapton shows up again on Willie Dixon’s “I Can’t Quit You”. A great Blues standard, and the Stones don’t hold back at all on this one. Jagger doesn’t play guitar on the recording, he pretty much sticks to harmonica and does a great job with it. Also, there are no vocals from Keith Richards on the CD… all the singing is handled by Jagger. Again, he does an amazing job staying to that Blues theme. I highly recommend you acquire these tunes, if you are a lover of Blues music, you’ll love the Stones’ treatment of some of the finest Blues standards available. Please, take the time to explore the original artists of these songs. You won’t regret it, and you will have a better perspective of how great this album really is. Way to go Rolling Stones, you knocked this one out of the ballpark.
